Teen With Stretch Marks

I thought that All About Stretch Marks should address a growing concern among teenagers.  An increasing number of emails have been received concerning teens with stretch marks. Teenagers develop stretch marks because of the hormone fluctuations and major growth spurts that occur during the teenage years.  Body image is a huge deal to most teenagers and having stretch marks is just another thing that they have to deal with.

A teen stretch mark is different from an adult stretch mark because teenage skin can still adapt, grow, and change quite readily. It is for this reason that a great majority of stretch marks formed during the teen years will fade to be almost completely unnoticeable.  I don't suggest trying stretch mark creams at such a young age, but if you or your teenager is consumed by hatred for his stretchmarks, a visit to your family dermatologist would be the first place to start.

In the short term, self tanning lotions and creams can help to cover teen stretch marks until they fade away.  Just remember, stretch marks usually occur in places people don't see a lot of.  If you are concerned that people will think less of you because you have stretch marks then I say those people aren't good enough to be your friends.
