How Do You Get Pregnant?

How do you get pregnant seems like a very self explanatory question. The truth is that many women want to become pregnant and struggle to get there. While timed intercourse is the best way to fall pregnant for most women, timing can be trickier than one thought. Not all women have a 28 day cycle or ovulate on cycle day 14. A normal cycle can vary from 22 to 38 days in length, with ovulation occurring approximately 14-16 days before the next menstruation.

If you have been trying to get pregnant for a few months and nothing is happening, you may want to begin to monitor your cycles better so you can time intercourse for a better chance of conception. There are a few ways you can do this and be highly successful. You can use an ovulation calculator or calendar that will tell you based on cycle length when the most fertile time of your cycle could be. These are useful for those who have no know medical issues regarding fertility and very regular cycles. You would simply have intercourse on the highlighted days.

Another way to know when you are most fertile is to use Ovulation Predictor Kits. These are urine tests that detect the surge of Luteinizing Hormone (LH) that is produced when ovulation is going to occur. You simply begin to use the kit and when it becomes positive, be sure to have intercourse. You will ovulate within 24 – 48 hours after a positive test.

One of the oldest and most reliable ways to detect ovulation is to chart your basal body temperatures. Each morning upon waking you would take you temperature before anything else. Once ovulation has been detected you would see a rise in temperature of approximately 0.40 degree that will be sustained for the rest of your cycle. After a few cycles you should see a regular pattern and will be able to time intercourse for the days prior to ovulation.

When it comes to getting pregnant, it is the days prior to ovulation that do the trick. Once the egg is released it only lives 12-24 hours and then dies. It is the sperm waiting for it in the fallopian tube that will ultimately fertilize the egg. The best time to have intercourse for conception is 2-3 days prior to ovulation. Most doctors will tell a woman to have sex at least every other day from the end of her period till at least ovulation has been detected.
