How to Get Pregnant

We have all heard how easy it is to get pregnant. The truth about how to get pregnant is that it is not as easy as you would think. There is so much more to it than just meeting the right person and declaring you want a baby. Many people who have spent any amount of time trying to conceive will tell you that the stars have to align just right for there to be even the slightest glimmer of hope.

The first thing you need to know in order to maximize the chance you have to get pregnant is to know your menstrual cycle. Not all women are familiar with their periods. They assume that it should come once a month or have always been irregular and never thought much of it. The key to getting pregnant is having a normal menstrual cycle each and every month. Your cycle should be 22 – 38 days in length and fairly consistent. This will allow you to calculate when you ovulate so you can time intercourse. If you are coming off of birth control you can expect some time delay while your body is adjusting. Most women can expect to still be infertile for about 3 months after stopping their birth control. Other types can stay in your system for over a year. If your cycles are irregular or become irregular after stopping birth control you will want to consult your doctor for help.

Once you are familiar with your monthly friend, it is time to calculate when you ovulate each cycle. This is the key in knowing how to get pregnant. Ovulation is the one time per cycle that you release and egg and can possibly get pregnant. This process lasts only 12-24 hours and can be missed easier than caught. In order to maximize your chance of conception it is best to make sure to have sperm waiting for your egg. It is the time prior to ovulation that is when a woman is most fertile. You can use many of your body’s signs to know when ovulation is about to occur. Women get cervical mucus changes that enable sperm to make it to the egg easier and get an increased sex drive during their fertile period. You can also use kits that predict ovulation and basal body temperatures to aid you in getting pregnant.

Timing intercourse is the single most important thing you should know about getting pregnant. You must have sex at just the right time each month in order to conceive. Each month you only have a maximum of a 15-25% chance of catching the egg. This is even under the most optimum conditions. To maximize your chances you should be having intercourse at least once every other day from the ending of your menstruation till after you are sure you have ovulated. It is the intercourse from up to the 5 days prior to ovulation that will get you pregnant. The 2-3 days prior to the egg release gives you the highest chance, and is what ovulation kits test for.
