If I Am Overweight, Will I Ever Show When I Am Pregnant? When a woman becomes pregnant she usually cannot wait to show her new baby bump. For those women who are heavier when they become pregnant, worries of actually looking pregnant begin to surface. Many larger women are afraid that they will not look pregnant at all and people will never know without being told. The truth is that even women who are overweight show through their pregnancy as other women do. They can just expect changes at different times. The first change you will notice in the very beginning is your actual weight. Many overweight mommies-to-be lose weight or do not gain any at all for quite some time into their pregnancy. This is very normal. You will convert fat into baby weight instead. This is actually recommended as you will exit your pregnancy at a healthier place than when you entered. Your body will begin to change as well so that the baby bump will be easier to spot. Many women notice that they slim through the waist and thigh area in the very beginning. As your pregnancy progresses and you enter the mid second trimester, you will notice that what used to be extra weight is now firm. This is very normal and is your baby. The growing uterus and fetus begin to take over that region. Women who begin pregnancy with extra weight are still encouraged at this point to be losing or maintaining their current weight for ultimate health of them and their baby. It will not only be obvious to you, but to strangers at this point as well that you are pregnant and not just heavy. A baby bump has a very distinct look and gets more pronounced as the pregnancy progresses. So, while you may have to wait a bit longer than an extremely thin woman to show, you will show just as obviously as she will.
