Revitol Stretch Mark Cream

The trouble with stretch marks is that these common skin lesions present the body with a major challenge; it cannot repair them on its own.  Although they may fade eventually with time their appearance is generally unwelcome and they can lead to feelings of low self esteem.  The body needs a helping hand to either prevent or eradicate stretch marks.  A healthy diet, plenty of water, massage and topical creams, and lotions can be beneficial.

Revitol Stretch Mark Cream is the relatively new cosmetic kid on the block.  The manufacturer claims that it can be used to reduce the appearance of existing stretch marks within weeks, because of its blend of purely natural ingredients including squalene oil, vitamin E, vitamin A, vitamin D3, aloe vera, and grapefruit seed extracts.

Squalene Oil – Is a naturally derived oil from olives, palm oil and some other vegetable fats.  Its regenerative properties act on the surface of the skin to help reduce the appearance of scars.

Aloe Vera- Extract from the aloe leaf that can protect the skin from environmental damage.  It also promotes skin regeneration, and there are several scientific studies that demonstrate the ability of aloe vera to heal wounds including (Davis R et al. Wound healing.  Oral and topical activity of aloe vera. Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association; 79 (11): 559-562).  However, there are also contradictory studies suggesting that its benefits are limited at best (Schmidt JM, Greenspoon JS. Aloe vera dermal wound gel is associated with a delay in wound healing.  Obstetrics and Gynecology; 78 (1): 115-117).

Vitamin D3–D3 is the active form of vitamin D and it’s involved in a cascade of reactions that can regenerate wound damaged skin (Siegfried Segeart. Vitamin D regulation of cathelicidin in the skin: toward a renaissance of vitamin D in dermatology? Journal of Investigative Dermatology (2008); 128: 773-775).

DL-Penthenol – This is the scientific name for pro-vitamin B5 which can help strengthen damaged skin, and promote cell growth and differentiation.

Grapefruit Seed Extract –As it helps to restore damaged collagen and elastin which are responsible for the skin’s elasticity, grapefruit extract may prevent the formation of stretch marks.

Vitamin A – Blocks potentially harmful UV rays, and also promotes skin cell regeneration.

Revitol Stretch Marks Cream has also been designed to work as a preventative treatment to increase the skin’s elasticity and promote the growth of new skin cells.  It is heavily marketed as an effective way of preventing stretch marks from appearing.  However, there are no clinical studies of Revitol Strech Mark Cream published on the manufacturer’s website to back up any of their claims.  They are also mindful to warn customers that they cannot guarantee that stretch marks will be gone completely, and advise that if a person does have stretch marks the prevention cream is most effective on scars that are still red and elevated.
